Description
Naked Blends Unscented Lotion is made with 99% natural ingredients. It contains two synthetic ingredients. They are noted below so you can easily identify them and do further research if needed.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Coconut Oil, High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Emulsifying Wax 93725SC, Glyceryl Monostearate, Organic Shea Butter, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Carbomer (synthetic), Optiphen Plus (synthetic).
Many of you have asked for a liquid lotion. Although I like 100% natural ingredients, certain products, such as lotion, have requirements to keep customers safe. Your safety is our top priority! We work hard to ensure we meet the highest standards. So, let me explain why those two synthetic ingredients are in our lotion.
To create a liquid lotion, you need water. Anytime water is used in a skincare product, a preservative is needed. If not, it will grow bacteria and mold within a week or less. We have natural preservatives available, but unfortunately, they are not as successful. Optiphen Plus helps our lotion remain free of bacteria and mold more efficiently than natural preservatives. Even though it is a synthetic preservative it is much safer than lotion containing bacteria or mold.
Let’s dive a little deeper! Optphen Plus is a trade name with the following 3 INCI listing: Phenoxyethanol (an organic compound that is a common preservative in vaccine formulations. It is typically made by treating phenol with ethylene oxide in an alkaline medium.), Caprylyl Glycol, (an alcohol that’s derived from caprylic acid, a saturated fatty acid that’s found in coconut oil, palm oil and cow’s milk. Although the glycol occurs naturally, it’s also synthetically produced for its use in skin and body care formulas. It can help reduce signs of aging), and Sorbic Acid (a natural preservative).
The other synthetic ingredient, Carbomer, is an inactive ingredient that helps the active ingredients work well. They suspend solids in liquids and work as an emulsifier to prevent oil and water from separating. Remember, liquid lotions have water, so without Carbomer the ingredients in this lotion would eventually separate. Yuck! This helps stabilize the lotion, so it has a longer shelf life. It also helps the lotion appear more rich, smooth, and creamy.
Ensuring customer safety is important, which is why those two synthetic ingredients were necessary. If you prefer 100% natural, that’s understandable. I have other options for lotion. Check out my skincare page.
